I have been contacted by concerned residents regarding the state of Northfield Library.
The windows frames on the building are rotten and I understand that the outdated boiler has now failed completely. Clearly, these are serious issues which if left unrepaired will end up costing the Council far more in the long run than simply carrying out the repairs now.
I am also concerned that if the Council leaves the Library in its current condition, it will encourage them to look at closing the library as they have done to others in the City. That would be totally unacceptable. I am meeting with staff from the Library service in the coming weeks to discuss the need for the repairs and the retention of the Library.
